Is to detect Misbranded, Adulterated, Spurious drugs and Not of Standard quality drugs under Section 33E for Misbranded drugs, Section 33EE for Adulterated drugs, Section 33EEA for Spurious drugs under the Chapter IV-A of Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1945.

• State Drugs Testing Laboratory (I.M) has been receiving around 2500 -3000 samples for testing per year have been tested for assessing statutory status and assuring the quality. 
• Being a statutory laboratory always receiving the Court CBCID/Crime branch complaint samples through Court Magistrate, cyber-crime samples, Custom samples, urgent complaint samples/ Unknown samples from the Drug Inspector/Commissioner.
• Tender/nodal – Government manufacturing samples received from Tampcol. All the drugs manufactured by TAMPCOL and drugs procured by nodal agencies from various manufacturers are being tested before supply to Government Indian Medicine Institutions

Testing of Andaman Nicobar Statutory Samples:

The Government in G.O.No. (D)2117 Health & Family Welfare Department (I.M-2/2), dated:18.12.2018 – Health Department of Andaman Nicobar Island (UT) to notify Government Analyst (ex-officio) & State Drug Testing laboratory (Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy) Tamil Nadu discharge the statutory duties for Andaman Nicobar (UT) as per section 33F(2) of Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1940. Andaman & Nicobar Statutory samples have been received and tested from 2021 as per Memorandum of Understanding.

Testing of Homoeopathic Drugs:

As per Government of India, Direction to carry out testing of Homoeopathic drugs at their respective state DTLs approved by Ministry of Ayush under Rule 160B of Drugs and Cosmetics Rules 1945.T-14020/2/2022-DCC, Government of India, Ministry of AYUSH (Drug Policy Section). Dated: 21.07.2022. In the year 2023, 3 statutory Homoeopathic samples Received for testing. 

• Quality Assessment hands on training to Ayush & Interdisciplinary Pharma & Science under/ post graduate students.
• In State Drugs Testing Laboratory (Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy) is giving training and doing project work to the Government Indian Medicine College students every year. 
• Special training giving to private Indian Medicinal and interdisciplinary college students. 

Achievements:

• State Drugs Testing Laboratory (Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy) is a Leading Number One in testing of AYUSH samples All over India under Government of India as per details produced in Lok Sabha questions & answers.

Scheme:

• The Proposed Machinery and Equipment for DTL to achieve higher standards under AOGUSY Scheme is approved by Government of India, Ministry of Ayush.

New Drugs Development for Research Scholars.

During Covid-19 pandemic situation, following research studies were carried out in collaboration with Research and Development Wing for ISM, Chennai-106.

• Standardization of Nellikai Legiyam research work has been evaluated and published in Journal of Indian Medicine.
• Quality control parameters of Brahmananda bhairava tablets W. S. R. to Its physico-chemical analysis was carried out in collaboration with Siddha Central Research Institute, Chennai-106.
• Pharmacognostical Analysis of Kabasura Kudineer Choornam.
• Qualitative and Quantitative analysis of Kabasura Kudineer Choornam.
