About

The Selection Committee, Commissionerate provides of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy, Chennai is authority to make admissions for all Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy systems.

(AYUSH) courses in Government Quota seats in Government Colleges and Government Surrendered seats, All India Quota and Management Quota Seats in Self-financing Colleges.

The details of the selection and admission procedures for BSMS/BAMS/BUMS/BHMS/BNYS/MD (Siddha) / MD (Unani) / MD (Homoeopathy) /MD (Yoga & Naturopathy)/ DIP/DNT Courses are provided below.

General Information:

Admission to BSMS/BAMS/BUMS/BHMS/BNYS/MD (Siddha) / MD (Unani) / MD (Homoeopathy) /MD (Yoga & Naturopathy)/ DIP/DNT medical courses in the Government colleges and self-financing colleges is done by the Selection Committee functioning under the Commissionerate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy, Arumbakkam, Chennai – 600106.

Eligibility:

Candidate should be a citizen of India.

Nativity:

a) Candidate should be a Native of Tamil Nadu (or)
b) If the candidate belongs to a native of other state, he/she should have studied from VI to XII Std continuously in Tamil Nadu to become eligible under the open category.

Age Limit:

Candidates should have completed Seventeen Years on or before the 31st December of the year of admission for admission in the first year of the course and there is no upper age limit to BSMS / BAMS / BUMS / BHMS / BNYS Degree Courses.

Educational Qualifications:

Candidates should have passed Higher Secondary Certificate (Academic) conducted by the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary State Board with the following group of subjects with prescribed minimum marks alone shall be considered.

a) Physics, Chemistry, Biology
                   or
b) Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology

Minimum eligibility marks in the various subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany and Zoology) for the different categories / Communities, namely Other communities (O.C.), Backward class (B.C.), Most Backward classes and Denotified communities (M.B.C./D.C.) and Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Caste Arunthathiyar/Scheduled Tribe (S.C./S.C.A./S.T.) have been prescribed. Details will be available in the prospectus.

(i) Category I – Government Medical Colleges:

The seats available in BSMS / BAMS / BUMS / BHMS / BNYS courses in Government Medical Colleges.

(ii) Category II – Government Surrendered seats in self- Financing  Medical Colleges:

Allotment of seats to BSMS / BAMS / BHMS /BNYS courses in Self Financing Medical Colleges will be based on the merit and following the Rule of Reservation and subject to the availability.

Candidates who wish to apply for BSMS/BAMS/ BHMS courses under All India Quota seats and BSMS / BAMS / BHMS /BNYS courses under Management Quota seats in Self- financing Colleges under the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University he/she should apply separately for each quota seats. A separate Prospectuses will be issued accordingly. Candidates are advised to visit www.tnhealth.tn.gov.in website for more details in this regard.

Method of Selection and Admission:

(i) Rank List of the eligible candidates for BSMS/BAMS/BUMS/BHMS courses shall be prepared based on the marks obtained in NEET UG-2024 and Rank List of the eligible candidates for BNYS course shall be prepared based on the marks obtained in higher secondary exam. Candidates shall be admitted to the above courses from the said rank list only. The Secretary, Selection Committee will publish the tentative rank list on the following official website: www.tnhealth.tn.gov.in.

(ii) Counselling for Government School students’ under 7.5 percentage reservation as per the Tamil Nadu Admission to Undergraduate Courses in Medicine, Dentistry, Indian Medicine and Homeopathy on preferential basis to students of Government schools Act, 2020 (Tamil Nadu Act No.34 of 2020) and special category seats (on horizontal reservation basis) will be done before General Category.

(iii) The Government school candidates are suggested to mention the EMIS number clearly. Candidates those who are not having EMIS No. should obtain and enclose a Bonafide Certificate from the School or Schools (as the case may be) studied from the Headmaster/Headmistress in the prescribed format for their studying 6 th standard to 12 th standard and should be counter signed by the respective Chief Educational Officer of the respective District. The prescribed format is annexed as Annexure XI to this prospectus.

(iv) Selection and admission will be made on merit basis for all categories of seats through counselling, following rule of reservation, choice of candidates and availability of seats. Eligible candidates will be called for counselling and single window system will be followed during counseling based on their rank.

(v) Candidates can attend the counselling accompanied by one parent /guardian.

(vi) Candidates have to furnish relevant details in a counseling form and all the original certificates will be verified in person. The vacancy position and colleges available will be displayed.

(vii) The candidates have two options for any courses. Candidates can choose any of the course and college where seats are available at their turn. If the seat is not available in the course of their choice they can opt to be wait listed (except candidates belongs to OC community). If the candidate chooses a self-financing college for any course (which is only available at his/her turn), then the candidate can be waitlisted for Government Colleges for the same course in all categories of seats unless he/she is opting out.

(viii) Option once given at the time of counseling cannot be changed later under any circumstances. If a Candidate opts out of one category of seats and opts for the other category, under no circumstance he/she can claim for opted out category. For example, if a candidate opts out any UG Seat in any of the Government medical colleges when seats
are available and takes up a seat in a particular self-financing college, the candidate cannot come back or claim seat in any Government medical colleges at a later date.

(ix) A non-refundable amount will be collected from the candidates selected during counselling. If the candidate does not join the course or discontinues the course, he/she will have to forfeit the non-refundable amount paid during the counseling and the selection automatically stands cancelled.

Rule of Reservation:

(i) Open competition 31%
(ii) Backward classes 30% (Within 30% reservation for BC, 3.5% reservation will be
provided for BC Muslims)
(iii) Most backward classes/ De-notified communities 20%
(iv) Scheduled castes 18%
(v) Scheduled castes Arunthathiyar (16% of 18% SC seats)

(vi) Scheduled tribes 1%

Note:

(i) The number of seats available for allotment for the previous year (2023-2024) are shown above. The exact number of seats in each college and any other changes (due to starting of new colleges) as approved by the Government will be available usually before the commencement of the Counselling. Allotment will be made only for seats approved by
the MCI / DCI / GOI on the date of Counselling.
(ii) 15% of the total seats in government medical colleges are allotted to the AIQ and the allotment is done by the NCISM, New Delhi, based on the NEET marks.
(iii) Seats are reserved for various special categories in Government Colleges. Details regarding the eligibility conditions and mode of Selection for the various special categories will be available in the prospectus.
(iv) The list of Government / Self-financing Medical Colleges and Para-Medical Schools will be available in the prospectus.

Duration of the Courses:

(i) BSMS / BAMS / BUMS / BHMS / BNYS – UG AYUSH MEDICAL DEGREE COURSES – 5 ½ (Five and half) years of study including one year Compulsory Rotatory Resident Internship.
(ii) MD (SIDDHA), MD (UNANI), MD (YOGA & NATUROPATHY) – PG COURSES – 3 ½ (Three and half) years of study including one year Compulsory Rotatory Resident Internship.
(iii) DIP / DNT – AYUSH PARAMEDICAL DIPLOMA COURSES – 2 ½ (Three and half) years of study including Six months of Non-Stipendiary Compulsory Rotatory Internship training at various hospitals of this Department.
