Government Homoeopathy Medical College & Hospital Madurai, is a Government College established in the year 1975. The College is affiliated to Dr. M.G.R.Medical Universirty, Chennai, located in Tamilnadu with an annual intake of 50 seats.

About the College:
Government Homoeopathic Medical college and hospital is one of the oldest and reputed homoeopathic medical colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Mission:
Dissemination of Homoeopathy to the suffering humanity by producing quality homoeopathic physicians.
Institution Overview:
- The College was established in the year 1975 with an annual intake of 22 students at the kilpauk Medical College campus, Chennai.
- In 1982, the college was relocated to Thirumangalam, Madurai District and the campus was established in 20 Acre Land with good Infrastructure Facilities.
- Initially The college was imparting DHMS – Diploma in Homoeopathic Medicine and surgery course till 1986 after that BHMS degree course introduced with an annual intake of 22 students and affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University and then to the TamilNadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University since 1988.
- In 1996-1997 Academic year the Annual intake of students admission was increased from 22 to 50.
- The College is recognized by National Commission for Homoeopathy, New Delhi and affliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University.
Academic:
The College is imparting BHMS (Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery) course comprises homoeopathic education program about 4(1/2) years and one year compulsory rotatory residential internship.

Facilities:
Smart Class room – Advanced Teaching Techniques with audio visual aids are available in all class rooms.
College has Tie-up with government hospital, Thirumangalam for conducting clinical classes and post mortam classes for students.
Tie-up:
The Government Hospital Tirumangalam is being utilized for teaching hospital for imparting clinical classes and postmortems to students. The Students are also permitted to attend clinical classes at Government Head Quarters Hospital Virudhunagar.
Laboratory Facilities:
Well equipped Laboratories are available in U.G Departments as follows.
- Physiology including Bio-Chemistry
- Pathology including Micro-Biology
- Homoeopathic Pharmacy
Library:
- College library rich has collection of Homoeopathic books and books for allied medical subjects.
- Well stocked Journals, Magazines, Newspaper and periodicals are available.
There is a library with 4886 number of books. The Library is being looked after by a full time Librarian.
All departments conducts inter department and intra department seminars CME programme for inerness and students on a regular basis.
Internship Training:
The students who have passed the Final BHMS Examination have to undergo compulsory internship training for a period of one year as per CCH guidelines. The students are permitted to register their names in Tamil Nadu Homoeopathy Medical council for provisional registration.
The internees are posted to undergo internship training at Government Homoeopathic Medical College, Tirumangalam for 11 months and one month training in community Medicine at Primary Health Centre.
NSS:
The T.N Dr M.G.R Medical university have sanctioned one NSS unit to this college with student strength of 100. This unit is functioning under the guidelines of Dr. M.G.R Medical University and conducting periodical free medical camps in and around Tirumangalam.
N.S.S. Volunteers conducting Blood Donation Camps and participating in Pulse – Polio programme organized by local administration.
RED RIBBON CLUB:
Red Ribbon Club is functioning in this College.
Anti-dengue fever camp:
Camps were conducted in and around Madurai District to dispense dengue preventive medicine.

- In addition to the general OP there are 6 special OP’s from monday to saturday.
A OPD is also Functioning inside the Government Hospital campus, Tirumangalam. The daily average of OP strength is 400. The daily average no. of IP is 68%. In addition to the normal out patient, the following special op’s are conducted:

X-Ray and ECG faculties are available in this Hospital. X-Ray Machine is operated by a full time Radiographer.

IN- PATINET department with 50 numbers of bed for male, female and children are available in the college campus. In-patient is well maintained with 8 nursing staff including a Headnurse.

Medical Camp:
College conducts free medical camp in and around Thirumangalam once in fortnight.
College conducts following program through Department of community medicine periodically.

Kitchen:
A Kitchen is available with one cook. Diet is being provided to inpatients as per approved scales fixed by the State Government.
Student Admission Process:
- NEET is Mandatory for BHMS admission.
- Selection Committee, directorate of indian medicine and homoeopathy, arumbakkam, chennai conducts admission counselling for state quota (85%).
- 15% of all india quota admission counselling conducted by AACC (AYUSH ADMISSION CENTRAL COUNSELLING COMMITTEE).
Homoeopathic Medicine:
Homoeopathic Medicines are prepared from all sources (ie) Vegetable Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Mineral Kingdom, nosodes, Sarcodes and imponderablia. The Crude medicinal substances are subjected to the process of dynamisation, thereby the material decreases but the dynamic power of the medicine therapeutic efficiency is increased.
Recent researches in science proved the Homeopathic medicines works on the principles of Nano-Technology.
Success stories:
- The hospital attached to the college is regularly conducting medical camps in and around the Tirumangalam.
- During COVID-19 the Homeopathic Preventive medicine “Arsenicam album 30c” as advised by central council of Homoeopathy was distributed to the people of Tirumangalam and Madurai district.
- During Dengue season preventive medicines are distributed to various Places in and around Tirumangalam.
- Every year minimum of 10 – 20 students are joining Post graduate courses.
- In all the competitive examinations for medical officers recruitments like MRB and TNPSC the products of the government homoeopathic medical college are securing more than 50% of the places.
- Students of the college are visiting various pharmaceuticals and institutions for enhancing their knowledge and gaining practical exposure.
- Various events and functions like Tamil mandram, Sports day, cultural events, college day, pongal vizha, world Homoeopathy day, Yoga day, and all the other events instructed by the state government and central government are followed regularly in the college.
